Purdue University ArchiveSpace: The Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company was an airplane company that was created when the Aerial Experiment Association (AEA), founded in 1907, disbanded in 1909. The AEA was formed by Alexander Graham Bell who recruited Glenn Curtiss as a founding member. When the AEA disbanded in 1909, Curtiss founded the Herring-Curtiss Company with Augustus Moore Herring 1909; the company was renamed the Curtiss Aeroplane Company in 1910. In 1916, the Curtiss Aeroplane Company and the Curtiss Motor Company formed the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company. This company merged with the Wright Company in 1929 to form the Curtiss-Wright Corporation.
