Scope:
Preface: "The purpose of this edition of Statics is to provide a suitable text for students of architecture and engineering in technical institutes, junior colleges, and universities. The major emphasis is on the application of basic physical concepts and principles to easily understood problems and examples.
A large number of problems have been included with each section of the text to improve its teachability. The instructor will thereby be able to choose from a wide selection of problems for class work.""
Chatpter 1: ""Engineering mechanics is a study of forces and of the effects of forces on the bodies upon which they act. Applied engineering mechanics emphasizes the application of the principles of mechanics to the solution of engineering problems.
Statics is that branch of mechanics dealing with the external effects of balanced forces acting on physical bodies. When the external forces acting on a body are balanced, the body remains in equilibrium.""
