Fundamentals of Composites Manufacturing: Materials, Methods, and Applications, 1989, 1989
Scope and Contents
"Document Type: Textbook (Technical).
Purpose: Training and Education.
Authority: Author Expertise.
Scope (from Foreword):
"Today's manufacturing engineers must extend themselves. They must take calculated risks in an effort to develop the fabrication techniques required to build the best possible composites hardware.
The composites industry needs engineers, technicians, and tradespeople who understand how and why composites are used. They must possess the knowledge necessary to determine if the use of composites will be worthwhile for a particular project or if the use of such materials will be a cost-saving move.
Many automotive engineers are duly impressed with the strength and stiffness of composite laminates. But the mastery of new design and production concepts is paramount to the full utilization of composite materials. If increased flexibility in manufacturing is to be realized, today's engineer must wear the hats of designer, chemist, and manufacturing planner, and must develop a keen understanding of the automated factory.""
"Coupled with these developments is the need for a good, solid educational base from which to work-something our schools can and must provide. Our educational programs must keep pace with technology, incorporating the finest and most thorough textbooks and class materials available. This book represents the first step for a student-who may one day become a manufacturing engineer-in exploring the world of composite materials and manufacturing."
