Scope and Contents

Document Type: Textbook (Technical).

Purpose: Training and Education.

Authority: Author Expertise.

Scope (from Preface): "In this book, an effort has been made to cover the more practical phases of both theory and experiment. Unusual emphasis has been placed on the physical aspect of the theory in order to cultivate the interest of the student and to provide a general background suitable for later more intensive mathematical work in the field. This approach makes feasible the introduction of such normally advanced topics as compressibility and flutter. Experimental methods are discussed at considerable length because of the importance of model tests in airplane design."

Contents (from Table of Contents): Preface 1. Physical Properties of Air 2. Principles of Fluid Flow 3. Dimensional Analysis and Dynamic Similarity 4. Experimental Methods 5. Theory of Lift 6. Monoplane Wing Theory 7. The Boundary Layer 8. Compressibility 9. Properties of Airfoil Sections 10. High-Lift Devices 11. Propeller Theory and Design 12. Performance 13. Control Surfaces 14. Longitudinal Stability 15. Lateral Stability 16. Unconventional Aircraft Index
