Scope and Contents

Document Type: Textbook (Technical).

Purpose: Training and Education.

Authority: Author Expertise.

Scope (from Preface): "The science of wind-tunnel testing has grown in the past two decades from secondary-almost academic importance to a vital position in aircraft development. During this time numerous papers on the development of the various components of the tunnel have appeared, as well as papers on corrections to be applied to wind-tunnel data; but surprisingly no integrated work embracing design, procedures, and corrections has been published....This textbook is the author's effort to fill the gap.

...

For these three groups: students, tunnel engineers, and those engaged in low-cost wind-tunnel design, this book has been written."

Contents (from Table of Contents): Chapter I. The Wind Tunnel II. Wind Tunnel Design III. Calibration of the Wind-Tunnel Jet IV. Model Force, Moment, and Pressure Measurements V. Testing Procedure VI. Wind-Tunnel-Boundary Corrections VII. Extrapolation to Full Scale VIII. Auxiliary Testing Equipment IX. Small Wind Tunnels Appendix I. Wind-Tunnel-Model Construction II. Numerical Constants and Conversion of Units Index
