The Story Of Superfinish: The Universal Finish Ultimate, 1940-05, 1940
Scope and Contents
Document Type: Book (Technical Reference).
Purpose: Informational.
Authority: Author Expertise.
Scope (from the Preface): "Because there was no book devoted to the many aspects and applications of the finish of metallic surfaces, the author has endeavored to develop his theme from elementary principles in order to clearly present the most advanced technical information. At the same time he believes he has shown that the subject of metallic surfaces, while it embraces all branches of science and technology, is fundamentally based on common sense.
The author has attempted to give full credit to the many technicians to whom he is indebted for information. It is hoped at some future date a revised copy of this work can include their further research data on this important subject."
Scope (from the Foreword): "The story contained in this book is of vital importance to all who are interested in industrial progress. It is of particular interest to the scientist, physicist, engineer, metallurgist, foreman, tool-maker, and mechanic.
This story is a technical description, in perfectly understandable language, of a development that started with civilization. The story, however, deals principally with the industrial development of metal surface finishing during the last three decades. No individual, whether he be a scientist or a practical engineer, can fail to be benefited by either a casual reading of this book, or a close study of it in detail."
