A book "not only about old unusual engines but also new ones" exploring a variety of unconventionally constructed internal combustion engines ntended to illuminate the experimentation and uncover "bright ideas to be pursued, many theories of construction that would be valid with out pewsent materials....Some that were succesful enough in their times could perhaps be profitably revived; others that were abject falutes could with equal profit be studied, for in them may lurk the germ of an idea that has yet to be properly developed."
