Flow Matching of the Stages of Axial Compressors (Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust Historical Series #4), 1998, 1999
Scope and Contents
Document Type: Book (Technical)
Purpose: Technical Reference.
Authority: Author Expertise.
Series: Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust Technical Series #4.
Scope (from Foreword and Chapter One):
"The flow matching of the stages in a high pressure ratio axial compressor operating in a gas turbine engine is a complex and difficult task.... The problem was solved by the fundamental understanding and empirical rules established over the years from many hours of rig and engine testing.
This paper attempts to set out the fundamentals and principles of this understanding. It was written by Geoffrey Wilde, after he had retired from the Company, as a design exercise for his students at the Universities of Liverpool and Loughborough where he was a visiting Industrial Professor."
"The object of this paper is to introduce the engineering student to the problems of the flow matching of the stages in an axial compressor to ensure smooth and stable operation under all operating conditions."
