Aircraft Maintenance and Repair (1st Edition), 1949, 1949
Scope and Contents
Document Type: Textbook (Technical).
Purpose: Training & Education.
Authority: Author Expertise.
Series: Northrop Aeronautical Institute Series of Aviation Texts
Scope: Textbook written by the staff of the Northrop Aeronautical Institute which provides extensive coverage of aircraft maintenance and repair tools, techniques, processes and procedures.
From the Preface: "The Technical Development Staff of Northrop Aeronautical Institute has prepared a series of textbooks on the construction, inspection, operation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of aircraft and aircraft engines that should prove of great value to mechanics, inspectors, maintenance engineers, and shop foremen.
Aircraft Basic Science covers those subjects which are generally regarded as essential for both aircraft mechanics and aircraft-engine mechanics. Aircraft Power Plants provides the specialized knowledge required by engine mechanics. Aircraft Maintenance and Repair supplies the information essential to the success of an aircraft mechanic. Each book is complete within itself. Also, the three texts present the background for many of the examinations given in the aviation industry for the certification and promotion of personnel.
Each topic has been explained in a step-by-step manner and illustrated with line drawings and photographs so that the reader can prepare himself for advancement by home study or can make use of the vast number of trouble-shooting charts, job breakdowns, and work procedures as a practical guide on a job. In addition, the subjects are so organized that instructors in public and private aircraft schools, the education departments of aircraft factories, vocational schools, high schools, and the shop departments of colleges and universities are provided with a wealth of classroom material.
