Questions and Answers for Airplane and Engine Mechanics (1st Edition, 2nd Impression), 1944, 1944
Scope and Contents
Document Type: Training Material (Test/Examine).
Purpose: Training and Education.
Authority: Commercial (Services).
Scope: Certification Exam study book. Compiled and edited by Aviation Research Associates, "in cooperation with the Technical Staffs of the Academy pf Aeronautics and The Casey Jones School of Aeronautics."
Content (from the Preface): "Practical knowledge is the first essential to success in the field of aircraft maintenance and repair—a practical knowledge of how things are done as well as a theoretical knowledge of why they are done that way. Methods and practice are therefore emphasized in the 3,000 questions listed in these pages.
They are not haphazard, hypothetical questions, but direct tests of practical knowledge based on the requirements of the Civil Aeronautics Administration examinations— questions compiled over a period of 12 years as final examination problems for over 24,000 young men and women who have studied at the Casey Jones School of Aeronautics, Newark, N.J., and at the Academy of Aeronautics, La Guardia Field, New York, and have thereby fitted themselves for jobs in the aviation and air transport industries and in the United States Army Air Forces and Naval Air Services.
Primarily, this book is written for the student or apprentice mechanic for use as a check on his understanding of aircraft maintenance and repair practice so that he may be able to plug the gaps in his knowledge before taking a CAA examination for a certificate as an airplane mechanic or airplane engine mechanic. But it is also a book for those who know as well as those who want to know, serving as a reminder of those details forgotten or overlooked and as a refresher in bringing practical information up to date. The questions it contains, and their answers, cover practically the whole field of aviation mechanics, and their study is tantamount to a comprehensive course in the many phases of that subject."
