Scope and Contents

Document Type: Periodical (Historical Study).

Purpose: Informational.

Authority: Author Expertise.

Document Number: Collector's Series (aka "All American Series") Volume One (dated 1965).

Scope: This book was produced (written, illustrated and edited) and published in 1965 by Paul R. Matt for readers interested in the history of American aviation, especially model builders.

The book includes articles about specific airplanes, as well as other biographical and historical information related to aviation. Each article consists of two pages of text and photographs and two pages of detailed three-view or four-view scale drawings of the aircraft from the top / bottom view(s) and side view(s).

From the Foreword: "Within the covers of this book we have tried to bring together a few of the many historical aircraft that assisted in America's heritage of the air. The airplanes portrayed are not all well known nor did they all make newsworthy headlines. Still each formed a stepping stone in the advance of some phase in man's advance into mastering the vast sea of aerial navigation. From Pre-World War I, through the first world conflict, the carefree '20's and the depression of the '30's, we have symbolized the trend with contemporary and typical aircraft of the era. The second World War is remembered with two types illustrated, followed by the uncertain Post-War period and the entry into the jet age. It is impossible to tell the whole story but what is related is based on years of research, first hand accounts and sources noted for their integrity in the field. We will continue to strive toward publishing easy to read and understand historical facts without delving into boring and extraneous technicalities.

We hope you find this volume of value and interest and that it will be utilized to form a basic knowledge of the great strides taken by the American Aviation Industry, the men and machines behind it and the never ending struggle that is necessary to give man wings and to conquer space in the future. The basic needs of the model builder are herewith fully incorporated. Not to be overlooked is the incentive we hope to create for a more serious study and research into historical aviation. Our sincere endeavor is to provide incentive with this small contribution. Your interest in our work will, in turn, provide further incentive on our part to produce future volumes with even greater potential."
