Scope and Contents

Document Type: Periodical (Historical Study).

Purpose: Informational.

Authority: Author Expertise.

Document Number: Collector's Series (aka "All American Series") Volume III (dated 1966).

Scope: This book was produced (written and illustrated) and published in 1966 by Paul R. Matt for readers interested in the history of American aviation, especially model builders. It was edited by Kenn C. Rust.

The book includes articles about specific airplanes, as well as other biographical and historical information related to aviation. Each article consists of pages of text and photographs and two or more pages of detailed three-view or four-view scale drawings of the aircraft from the top / bottom view(s) and side view(s).

From the Foreword by Waldo D. Waterman: "In the first two, and from what I have seen of the third of Paul Matt's Historical Aviation Album, the author has shown a keen insight into the design and story of many famous aircraft. His accurate reporting and meticulous research into the design and flight history of these memorable airplanes should not only have the applause of their creators but also that of the many aviation "buffs", students, and aviation historians that will read their pages.

One must be reminded that progress in science is largely brought about by failure and that it is only by the mistakes of others that one knows where not to tread. Many of the aircraft so far depicted in the Albums were one of a kind or only produced in a limited manner, but each one of them is significant in that it has made some kind of a contribution to the science of flight. As one that has been continuously associated with some phase of aeronautics for 57 years may I say to Paul Matt and his wife Joan, "Bravo for a job well done," and express a hope that it may continue on the fine plane upon which it has been initiated in the first three volumes."

Contents: Includes articles about: - GALLAUDET D-SERIES AIRCRAFT [written by Robert Gordon] - CURTISS TWIN-JN [written by Robert Garrard] - LOCKHEED "ORION" - VOUGHT SBU-1 [written by by Harold Andrews] - SEVERSKY BT-8 - WATERMAN "ARROWBILE" - RYAN FR-1 "FIREBALL" - MOREHOUSE 2 CYLINDER AIRCRAFT ENGINE - CURTISS-GOUPIL "DUCK" - and a two-page biography of Louis Paulhan
