Scope: This book was produced (written and illustrated) and published in 1973 by Paul R. Matt for readers interested in the history of American aviation, especially model builders. It was edited by Thomas G. Foxworth and Kenn C. Rust.

The book includes articles about specific airplanes, as well as other biographical and historical information related to aviation. Each article consists of pages of text and photographs and two or more pages of detailed three-view or four-view scale drawings of the aircraft from the top / bottom view(s) and side view(s).

The front cover includes a full-color painting of "Benny Howard and "Mike" by Paul R. Matt.

COVER ILLUSTRATION: Benny "Go Grease" Howard as most of the old air race fraternity remember him — at home in the grease pit as much as in the cockpit. Grease and oil may stain the coveralls but dirt shall never mar his two-tone "Spectator" shoes. The Damn Good Airplane is DGA-4 "Mike". The occasion is the 1933 National Air Races, in Los Angeles. Format & Physical Description

Perfect-bound 8.5" x 11" booklet with multi-colored cardstock covers (70 pages plus covers). Printed on semi-glossy paper. Includes numerous scale drawings and a mix of two-color and black & white photographs and charts.

Note: Overall very good condition with moderate cover marks. Moderate browning of paper.

Note 2: Page numbering in Volume XII continues from Volume XI, starting on page 69 and ending with page 140.

Note 3: Includes two 8.5" x 11" advertisements from the Historical Aviation Album company. The first is labeled "Look at these Beautiful Scale Models!" This sheet, covered black & white photographs of models, is an advertisment to order full-size scale drawings from Historical Aviation Album, This paper could be used to order "full sized prints" (aprox. 16" x 22") of more than 80 scale drawings. The second sheet advertises a book titled "Fifth Air Force...In World War II" written by Kenn C. Rust, illustrated by Paul R. Matt and published by Historical Aviation Album.
