Scope: Mandatory use flight operations manual for aircrew. From the Introduction:
"FUNCTION
The Aircraft Operating Manual serves to provide flight crewmembers and other Flight Operations personnel with sufficient descriptive information and operating instructions for the safe and economical operation of the airplane.
AUTHORITY
This manual is published by the System Director-Flight Standards (MIAKAPA), under the authority of the Vice President-Flight Operations.
The instructions in this manual apply in the conduct of all flight operations, except that the requirements expressed in the Route and Airport Manual for a specific route or airport take precedence.
The procedures in this manual include those in the FAA-approved Flight Manual expanded as necessary for Pan Am operations. Pan Am has determined that equivalent safety is provided by such procedures and assumes full responsibility for such determination.
ORGANIZATION
The basic 747 Aircraft Operating Manual is in two volumes. A supplemental volume is issued with specific information covering other variant airplanes. Organization of the basic AOM and its supplement is shown in the Aircraft Operating Manual Contents page of this section.
From the -212B Supplement introduction: "The 747-212B is an advanced passenger airplane with a larger upper deck, larger center fuel tank (113,900 Ib), increased gross weight and is powered by JT9D-7A engines.
Aerodynamically these airplanes are the same as Pan Am 747-100 airplanes.
This chapter, 260, outlines the -212B operating high-lights, performance, loading, cruise, limitations, emergency equipment location, and system differences as compared to the -121 airplane."
From the CRAF chapter Introduction: "B747-100 and -200B Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) airplanes have been modified so that they can be converted from carrying passengers to carrying cargo on the main deck. CRAF airplanes are identified by CRAF and are standard Pan Am airplanes except for the following:
• A large main deck side cargo door is installed on the left side, just aft of main entry door
- A SIDE CARGO DR warning light is installed on the door warning panel.
• A side cargo door heat system is installed.
• A main deck smoke detection and warning system is installed (turned off when the airplane is in the passenger configuration).
• A ram air vent valve and heater are installed to provide fresh air during unpressurized flight.
• (-100) Floor beams are strengthened to allow heavy cargo carriage on the main deck.
• (-100) -212B tires, wheels and brakes are installed to permit increased max structural weight limitations."
Contents: Include checklists and systems data that are different from base 747-100 and -200 models for B-747-212B, and Pan Am Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) configured -122, -123, and -132 models.
